Infosys and Handelsblatt launch AI-powered tool to improve digital news reading

Infosys and Germany’s Handelsblatt Media Group have launched Editorial Link Intelligence (ELI), an AI-powered editorial recommendation engine aimed at helping newsrooms deliver richer, more connected and reader-friendly digital stories.

The new solution has been developed exclusively for Handelsblatt and WirtschaftsWoche, two of Germany’s most influential business and finance publications.

Built on Infosys Aster, the company’s AI-amplified marketing suite, ELI is designed to support editors by recommending relevant internal links based on article content and metadata.

Why Infosys ELI is Important?

  • Many readers want simple explanations and more context while reading complex topics.
  • Business, finance and economy stories often involve many connected issues.
  • ELI will help readers understand such topics better by showing them related articles at the right place.
  • It will make online reading smoother, faster and more useful.

How Will ELI Help Readers?

  • Readers will get more background information while reading a story.
  • They can easily move from one article to another related article.
  • They will not need to search separately for older stories or related updates.
  • The tool will help them understand complicated topics in a simpler way.
  • It will improve the overall reading experience on Handelsblatt and WirtschaftsWoche websites.

How Will ELI Help Journalists?

ELI will suggest relevant internal links to editors, and will help them save time because they will not have to manually search for related stories. With the help of this tool, Journalists can spend more time on reporting, research and analysis, and less time on manual work.

The tool will also support newsroom teams without taking away their editorial control. Editors will still make the final decision before adding any link.

Who Built the Tool?

  • The tool has been developed by Wongdoody, Infosys’ human experience agency.
  • It uses Infosys Aster, an AI-powered marketing and digital experience platform.
  • ELI studies article content and metadata to suggest useful links.
  • It has been integrated into the editorial systems of Handelsblatt and WirtschaftsWoche.

Christian Herp, Chief Product Officer, Handelsblatt Media Group, said, “Editorial Link Intelligence we developed together with Infosys creates direct value for our editorial teams through the targeted use of AI. By integrating the tool into our content management system, it supports journalists in identifying and linking relevant content. In this way, we are sustainably enhancing the user experience and increasing customer satisfaction.”

Charlotte Morré, Member of the Editorial Board, Handelsblatt, said, “Editorial Link Intelligence helps us provide readers with more context and relevant related content on a given topic, giving them better guidance and orientation. What is equally important to us, however, is that the final review and editorial control of this content remain firmly with our newsroom colleagues.

In this way, the solution strengthens the quality of the digital user experience while giving our teams more time for research, analysis, and exclusive stories.”

Ashiss Kumar Dash, EVP and Services, Utilities, Resources, Energy & Enterprise Sustainability said, “By combining Infosys’ expertise with Handelsblatt’s editorial excellence, we are creating a blueprint for the future of intelligent storytelling. Editorial Link Intelligence leverages Infosys Aster’s strengths in creating impactful digital experiences and demonstrates how AI can amplify journalistic craft, not by replacing human judgement, but by enriching every article with deeper context, smarter navigation, and more relevant insights.

This technology ultimately helps readers engage with complex topics more intuitively and meaningfully, while giving Handelsblatt and WirtschaftsWoche a clear competitive edge in delivering the most contextual, high-quality business journalism in the market.”

News4Bharat POV

Infosys and Handelsblatt Media Group’s new AI tool, ELI, aims to make online journalism more useful for readers and more efficient for editors. It will help readers find related stories easily, understand complex topics better and spend more time with trusted content.

For journalists, the tool will reduce repetitive work and give them more time for original reporting. Most importantly, the final editorial decision will remain with human editors.

In simple terms, ELI shows how AI can support journalism without replacing journalists.
