Mahindra Group has appointed Shveta Arya as Group Chief Strategy Officer, effective September 15, 2026. Arya, who is stepping down as Managing Director of Cummins India, will lead Mahindra’s Group Strategy Office and work with its businesses to identify new sources of growth.
She will join the Group Executive Board and report to Dr Anish Shah, Group CEO and Managing Director. Arya will also be included in the senior management team of Mahindra & Mahindra Limited.
The company informed the National Stock Exchange and BSE about the appointment on August 9 under Regulation 30 of the SEBI Listing Regulations, as per the official Mahindra exchange filing.
What will Shveta Arya do at Mahindra?
Arya’s task will be to help Mahindra decide where its next phase of growth should come from. This includes studying new business opportunities, reviewing the performance of existing businesses and helping the group decide where to invest money and management time.
She will work across Mahindra’s portfolio, which includes automobiles, tractors, financial services, information technology, logistics, real estate, hospitality, renewable energy and agriculture.
The position gives Arya a group-level role rather than responsibility for one company or business division. Her place on the Group Executive Board will allow her to work directly with the leaders of Mahindra’s businesses.
Mahindra has not announced specific projects that Arya will handle. It has also not disclosed the length of her appointment or details of her compensation.
Welcoming her to the group, Anish Shah said Arya’s experience in driving growth, developing strategy and managing change would support Mahindra’s plans. He said her experience would help the group create long-term value across its businesses.
Why does the appointment matter?
The appointment matters because Mahindra is managing growth across businesses that operate in different markets. The group must make decisions on electric vehicles, new automobile models, rural finance, farm equipment, software services, logistics, property development and clean energy.
A group strategy head helps connect these decisions. The role involves assessing which businesses need more investment, which products can be expanded and where the group may need partnerships or acquisitions.
Mahindra is also entering this phase from a position of financial growth. In the first quarter of FY2026-27, the company reported consolidated revenue of ₹58,188 crore, up 28 percent from ₹45,529 crore in the same quarter a year earlier. Consolidated profit after tax rose 34 percent to ₹5,455 crore, according to Mahindra’s first-quarter results.

Shveta Arya’s role at Cummins India
Arya was appointed Managing Director of Cummins India on September 1, 2024, for a three-year term. She submitted her resignation on August 5, 2026, stating that she wanted to pursue an external opportunity.
Her resignation will take effect on August 31, two weeks before she joins Mahindra. She will also leave Cummins India’s Stakeholders Relationship Committee, Corporate Social Responsibility and Sustainability Committee, and Risk Management Committee.
Cummins India has said that it is evaluating candidates for the Managing Director’s position. It will inform the stock exchanges after selecting Arya’s successor, according to the company’s August 5 regulatory filing.
At Cummins India, Arya was responsible for business growth, customer relationships, employee development and workplace culture. Before becoming Managing Director, she led the company’s Power Systems business.
Arya joined Cummins in 2016 as Head of Strategy. She later managed its distribution and power systems businesses before being selected to lead the listed Indian company.

What happens next?
Arya will remain Managing Director of Cummins India until August 31 and will take charge at Mahindra on September 15.
The first indication of her priorities may come through Mahindra’s investor presentations, annual reports or future business announcements. Investors will also watch whether the group identifies new areas for investment or changes its approach to businesses outside automobiles and tractors.
For Mahindra, the appointment places a leader with experience in company management, consulting and acquisitions at the centre of group planning. For Arya, the move expands her responsibility from running one listed company to helping set the direction of a group operating across several industries and more than 100 countries.
