Kundan Kumar Mishra has taken charge as Director (Finance) of MMTC Limited, strengthening the senior leadership of the state-owned trading enterprise at a time when financial management, governance and strategic capital planning remain critical to the company’s evolving business position.
According to MMTC’s regulatory disclosure, Mishra’s appointment became effective from August 3, 2026. The company disclosed the development to the stock exchanges on August 7 after completing the required corporate approval process. He has been appointed for a period of five years from the date of assumption of charge or until further orders, whichever is earlier.
The appointment is a notable PSU leadership development as Mishra moves to MMTC after a long career with NTPC Limited, where he most recently served as Additional General Manager.
Kundan Kumar Mishra MMTC Appointment: From PESB Selection to Taking Charge
Mishra’s elevation to the MMTC board follows a multi-stage government selection process.
The Public Enterprises Selection Board (PESB) recommended him for the position of Director (Finance), MMTC Limited, on March 18, 2026. The PESB’s official recommendations list records the selection for the MMTC finance position on that date.
Mishra emerged as the preferred candidate after a PESB selection process involving four candidates. At the time of recommendation, he was serving as Additional General Manager at NTPC Limited. The candidate pool included executives from NTPC, Central Mine Planning & Design Institute Limited and Housing and Urban Development Corporation Limited.
Following the PESB recommendation, the appointment received the necessary approval from the competent government authority, including the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) process. MMTC subsequently formalised his appointment to its board.
He formally assumed charge on August 3, 2026.

Who is Kundan Kumar Mishra?
Kundan Kumar Mishra is an experienced finance professional with more than 28 years of professional experience spanning finance, business development and corporate management.
He is a graduate in Chemistry and a Fellow Member of the Institute of Cost Accountants of India, giving him a strong professional foundation in cost and financial management alongside his extensive PSU experience.
Before joining MMTC, Mishra built a long career at NTPC Limited, one of India’s largest public-sector power companies, where he worked across several functional and leadership assignments.
His experience has included positions such as:

As Director (Finance) of MMTC Limited, Mishra becomes a member of the company’s Board of Directors.
The position carries responsibility for overseeing MMTC’s finance and accounts functions and the formulation and implementation of key financial policies.
His wider remit is expected to encompass areas including financial planning, budgeting, capital allocation, financial controls, regulatory compliance, stakeholder management and supporting strategic decision-making by the company’s leadership.
The role assumes added importance because MMTC is a listed Central Public Sector Enterprise and consequently operates within both the government’s PSU governance structure and the regulatory requirements applicable to listed companies.

MMTC, operating under the administrative framework of the Ministry of Commerce & Industry, has historically played a major role in India’s domestic and international commodity trade. Its business has covered areas including minerals, metals, precious metals, coal, fertilizers, agro commodities and other trading activities.
However, MMTC’s recent financial profile also illustrates why the finance leadership position carries considerable strategic importance.
According to MMTC’s audited consolidated financial results for FY2025-26, revenue from operations stood at ₹3.41 crore, while other income amounted to ₹177.17 crore, taking total income to ₹180.58 crore.
MMTC Reported Strong Balance Sheet Liquidity in FY2025-26
MMTC’s FY2025-26 consolidated balance sheet showed total assets of approximately ₹2,795.87 crore as of March 31, 2026.
The company reported around ₹1,785.97 crore in bank balances other than cash and cash equivalents, while investments accounted for using the equity method stood at approximately ₹439.04 crore. Total consolidated equity was around ₹2,120.72 crore.
The financial results also showed no non-current borrowings on the consolidated balance sheet as of March 31, 2026.
