Key Highlights on Apple Raises MacBook Prices
- Apple has raised prices on MacBook, iPad, Mac Mini, HomePod and Apple TV in India. The hike came into effect on June 25, 2026.
- The MacBook Pro M5 now costs Rs 2,39,900 in India — up from Rs 1,69,900 earlier. That is a jump of Rs 70,000 on a single product.
- Price increases across all affected products range from Rs 5,000 on the lower end to Rs 1,00,000 on the higher end, depending on the model.
- Apple says AI companies are buying up memory chips at a pace the world has never seen before, which has pushed up the cost of building every MacBook and iPad.
- iPhones have not been touched yet. But Apple CEO Tim Cook has publicly said a price hike on iPhones is unavoidable and will come.
Apple has raised prices of several major products in India, including MacBook, iPad, Mac Mini, HomePod and Apple TV. The new prices came into effect on June 25, 2026, and are now visible across Apple’s India pricing channels.
The biggest jump is seen in the MacBook Pro M5, which now costs Rs 2,39,900 in India, up from Rs 1,69,900 earlier. The MacBook Air M5, MacBook Neo, Mac Mini M4, iPad Air, iPad Pro, HomePod mini and Apple TV 4K have also become more expensive.
Apple has blamed the price hike on rising memory and storage chip costs, which have surged because of heavy demand from AI data centres. iPhones have not become costlier yet, but future price increases remain a possibility as component costs continue to rise.

What Apple Said About Price Hike in India
Apple put out an official statement explaining the decision. The company said, "The consumer electronics industry is facing an unprecedented challenge. The rapid expansion of AI data centers has created an extraordinary surge in demand for memory and storage. We have never seen a component price increase this much, this quickly. We have shielded our customers from these increases so far, but we have now reached a point where we need to begin raising prices on a number of products."
Apple CEO Tim Cook had already given buyers a heads-up before the announcement. He told The Wall Street Journal that the situation reminded him of a "hundred-year flood" — something that does not happen in the normal course of business. Cook said, "I have never seen anything like it in any area in over 40 years."
He also said clearly that price increases had become unavoidable across Apple's product range. For iPhones in particular, Cook warned buyers that higher prices are coming as Apple prepares to launch the iPhone 18 lineup later this year.

A Closer Look at the Four Products That Got Hit Hard
MacBook Pro M5 Price in India After the Hike
The MacBook Pro M5 has gone from Rs 1,69,900 to Rs 2,39,900 — a jump of Rs 70,000 in one go. That is the single largest price increase Apple has made on any product in this round. The 14-inch MacBook Pro M5 Pro variant now costs Rs 2,99,900. At the top end, the MacBook Pro M5 Max has crossed Rs 5,00,000.
For anyone who was waiting to buy a MacBook Pro, the window at the older price is now shut. The M5 chip inside these machines is built for tasks that involve a lot of memory — video editing, 3D work, software development — and the irony is that the very memory powering those tasks is now what made the product more expensive.
HomePod Mini New Price India 2026
The HomePod mini now costs Rs 15,900 in India, up from Rs 10,900 earlier. That is a jump of Rs 5,000 and a percentage increase of around 45 percent. The HomePod mini sits in a part of the market where price matters a lot. At Rs 10,900, it was something a lot of buyers would pick up as a second smart speaker, a gift or a first entry into Apple's ecosystem.
At Rs 15,900, it is harder to justify that impulse. The HomePod mini does not have a screen, it does not have a camera and it runs on older hardware. Paying nearly Rs 16,000 for it in 2026 is a tough sell when the competition in this price range from brands like Amazon and Google is still priced much lower.
Mac Mini M4 New Price India
The Mac Mini M4 has gone from Rs 59,900 to Rs 94,900, which is a jump of Rs 35,000 — close to 58 percent. This one stings more than most because the Mac Mini was Apple's most accessible desktop computer in India. It was the product people bought when they wanted an Apple desktop without buying an iMac. Now that it is sitting at Rs 94,900 for the base model, it is no longer in the same conversation as a budget desktop setup. The Mac Mini M4 Pro, which comes with more memory, has crossed Rs 1,49,900.
Apple TV 4K Price Hike India
This is the one that has surprised the most people. The Apple TV 4K base model with Wi-Fi has gone from Rs 14,900 to Rs 25,900 — an increase of Rs 11,000 and a percentage jump of around 73 percent. The higher model with 128GB storage and an Ethernet port has jumped from Rs 16,900 to Rs 31,900. Nothing changed inside the device.
The Apple TV 4K that costs Rs 25,900 today is the same hardware that cost Rs 14,900 until recently. The memory shortage has pushed up the cost of the chips inside it, and Apple has passed that on completely. For a device that many people bought as a casual streaming box, nearly Rs 26,000 is a lot to ask. At this price, buyers are going to compare it directly against premium streaming dongles and budget Android TV boxes that do much of the same job for a third of the price.
Why Is This Happening — The Memory Chip Shortage Explained Simply
The short version is this. AI is eating up memory chips faster than factories can make them.
Every AI data center needs enormous amounts of memory chips to run. In 2026, AI companies across the world are building data centers at a speed and scale that suppliers simply did not plan for. Analysts estimate that AI data centers alone will consume around 70 percent of all the memory chips produced globally this year.
That leaves far fewer chips available for consumer products like laptops, tablets and phones. When supply drops and demand stays high, prices go up. Factories that used to make memory chips for everyday gadgets are now being retooled to serve the AI industry because the margins are better.
Industry researchers say the price of DRAM chips — the kind of memory that goes inside a MacBook or iPad — has nearly doubled in early 2026. Prices of storage chips jumped over 90 percent in a single quarter. Apple's costs went up before consumers saw anything change. Now that burden is being passed on.

Should You Buy a MacBook or iPad Now?
If you were already considering a MacBook or iPad, the prices you see today are the new normal. There is no indication that prices will come back down soon. The memory shortage is expected to continue through the rest of 2026, and some analysts say it could stretch into 2027.
That said, Apple's older models that are still available through resellers or certified refurbished channels may still carry older price tags for some time. That could be a window worth looking at.
For iPhones, the current prices are still unchanged. If you want to buy an iPhone without the upcoming hike, now is a better window than after September.
