Senior IAS officer Deepti Gaur Mukerjee has been appointed Secretary, Department of Higher Education, Government of India, placing her at the centre of India’s higher education reform agenda and the continued implementation of the National Education Policy 2020 (NEP 2020).
The appointment was approved by the Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) through an order issued on August 10, 2026, and was widely reported on August 11.
A 1993-batch Madhya Pradesh-cadre IAS officer, Deepti Gaur Mukerjee moves to the Ministry of Education from the Ministry of Corporate Affairs, where she was serving as Secretary.
She succeeds Vineet Joshi, who has moved to the Ministry of Panchayati Raj as Secretary.
