Lenovo Just Made the Best Android Tablet Under Rs 40,000 — Here's Why

It was announced at MWC in Barcelona in March. It goes on sale in India — May 1, 2026. And it is the first Lenovo tablet to carry the company's new AI platform, Qira.

Lenovo Just Made the Best Android Tablet Under Rs 40,000 — Here's Why

Lenovo has been quiet in the premium Android tablet space for a while. The Samsung Galaxy Tab S series and iPad have dominated conversations about serious tablet hardware. The original Idea Tab Pro made some noise in 2024 as a well-priced 12.7-inch option with a stylus included. The Gen 2 takes that foundation and rebuilds it with a larger, sharper display, a faster chip, and an AI learning workflow that Lenovo is positioning as the centrepiece of the product.

Display: Where the Upgrade Is Most Obvious

The Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 has a 13-inch PureSight Pro display with a 3.5K resolution (3,520 x 2,190 pixels). The original was 12.7 inches at 3K. The new screen runs at 144Hz, supports Dolby Vision, reaches 800 nits peak brightness in High Brightness Mode, and covers 99% of the DCI-P3 colour space.

Lenovo is also offering a matte anti-glare variant — a practical addition for students and professionals who spend extended hours reading or studying under mixed lighting. For a Rs 39,999 tablet, this display is competitive with what Samsung offers in a higher price bracket.

Performance: Snapdragon 8s Gen 4

Under the hood is the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 — a capable mid-to-upper tier chip with a dedicated NPU for AI-related tasks. Configurations available in India: 8GB RAM with 128GB or 256GB storage, and 12GB RAM with 256GB or 512GB storage. Expandable storage via microSD up to 2TB is supported. The device runs Android 16 out of the box and is guaranteed to receive OS updates through Android 18, plus four years of security patches.

Audio: JBL Quad Speakers with Dolby Atmos

Four speakers tuned by JBL with Dolby Atmos support — a meaningful inclusion at this price point. For a student watching lectures, consuming media, or joining video calls, quad-speaker audio with Atmos tuning makes a real perceptual difference over the stereo or dual-speaker setups common on most tablets.

What is Lenovo Qira AI?

Lenovo's biggest push with this tablet is the AI workflow built around its new platform, Lenovo Qira. Here is what the AI tools actually do:

  • Smarter Reader: An intelligent note-taking app that works with the included Lenovo Tab Pen Plus. Students can select passages in a textbook or document and generate summaries and explanations automatically.
  • AI Notes: Automatically organises notes taken in the Lenovo Notepad app. Extracts key points, structures information, and supports continued writing without losing the thread.
  • Google Gemini integration: On-device and cloud access to Gemini for general AI assistance.

A few caveats: the full Qira experience arrives "later in 2026" — not at launch. What ships on day one is the hardware and the core apps; the full AI workflow integration is coming. Buyers who are purchasing specifically for Qira should factor in that this is not immediately available.

Camera and Connectivity

13MP rear camera, 8MP front camera. For a tablet, the front camera matters more — video calls, recorded lectures, and online classes. An 8MP front camera at this price is adequate. Connectivity: Wi-Fi 7 — the latest-generation wireless standard. Bluetooth 5.4. USB-C. The Wi-Fi 7 inclusion is notable and future-proofs the device reasonably well.

Accessories: Tab Pen Plus and Keyboard

The Lenovo Tab Pen Plus is included in the box — that is not standard practice at this price and it matters. Keyboard and touchpad accessories are available separately, turning the tablet into a laptop-like productivity station.

Who Should Buy This?

  • Students in Class 10–12 or early college who want a large-screen device for studying, note-taking, and content consumption
  • Professionals who want a secondary screen for reading documents, annotating PDFs, and light productivity away from their laptop
  • Anyone who wants a big-screen Android tablet under Rs 40,000 with a strong display and included stylus

Who are the Competition

At Rs 39,999, the Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 sits between the Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 FE and the Galaxy Tab S10 FE. The Galaxy ecosystem has its advantages — DeX mode, Samsung Notes, and a more mature software experience. The Lenovo Tab Pen included in the box without extra cost is an advantage over Samsung's S-Pen pricing structure. For Android tablet buyers in India at this price, the Idea Tab Pro Gen 2 is a legitimate alternative to Samsung's FE range.
