BML Munjal University Launches MA in Public Policy Programme, Focus on Real-World Governance Challenges
Ahead of the programme rollout, BMU will host a Policy Assembly next month—a simulation-based platform where students from different institutions can experience real-world policymaking.

BML Munjal University (BMU), backed by the Hero Group, has announced the launch of its MA in Public Policy programme under the School of Liberal Studies. The course is designed to prepare students for careers in policymaking by combining academic depth with real-world exposure.
The two-year programme aims to equip students with skills across key areas such as governance, technology, climate policy, and social development, reflecting the increasingly interconnected nature of public policy today.
A Programme Built for Complex Policy Challenges
Structured across four semesters, the MA programme places strong emphasis on critical thinking, ethical reasoning, and applied problem-solving. Students will not just study policy frameworks but actively engage with real policy challenges, research projects, and field-based work.
Explaining the vision behind the programme, Dr Arindam Banerjee, Dean, School of Liberal Studies, said:
“Public policy today is being shaped by multiple transitions—geopolitical, technological, ecological, and economic. This programme has been designed to reflect that complexity, with a strong focus on interdisciplinary learning and real-world engagement.”
He added that the goal is to prepare students to respond to policy challenges in a way that is inclusive, grounded, and sensitive to diverse societal needs.
Experts Highlight Link Between Growth and Inequality
To mark the launch, BMU partnered with the Centre for the Study of Developing Societies (CSDS) to host a policy lecture on “Growth, Inequality and Public Policy in Contemporary India.”
The session featured prominent voices including Jayati Ghosh, Professor of Economics at the University of Massachusetts Amherst, along with Awadhendra Sharan and Ravi Sundaram from CSDS. The discussion focused on how economic growth and inequality are increasingly intertwined, especially in a rapidly changing global environment.
Jayati Ghosh noted:
“We are living in a time when economic growth and inequality must be understood together. Public policy has a critical role in shaping outcomes that are both inclusive and sustainable.”
She also stressed the importance of building resilience against global disruptions, urging policymakers to stay aligned with evolving global realities.
Course Details, Fees and Scholarships
Programme Start: August 2026
Duration: 2 years
Total Fee: ₹6 lakh

Beyond the Classroom: Policy Assembly Initiative
Ahead of the programme rollout, BMU will host a Policy Assembly next month—a simulation-based platform where students from different institutions can experience real-world policymaking.
The initiative is designed to encourage debate, negotiation, and collaborative decision-making, offering participants a closer look at how policies are actually shaped.
Why This Programme Matters
With policymaking becoming more complex—driven by climate change, digital transformation, and global uncertainty—there is growing demand for professionals who can connect data, governance, and societal impact.
BMU’s new programme attempts to fill that gap by blending academic theory with practical exposure, while encouraging a more participatory and hands-on policy ecosystem.
