US President Donald Trump has said that the latest proposal sent to Iran is much more detailed than a simple “one-page offer”, as Tehran continues to review messages delivered through Pakistani mediators.

The proposal is aimed at easing the ongoing US-Iran standoff and finding a way forward on key issues including ceasefire, regional stability and Iran’s nuclear programme.

What Trump Said?

Speaking to reporters at the White House, Trump rejected reports that the US proposal was only a brief one-page document. He said the offer clearly states that Iran should not have nuclear weapons and must hand over nuclear material to Washington.

Trump also claimed that Iran had agreed to some points, but added that such agreement does not always lead to a final deal.

According to Trump, talks remain complicated because the US is dealing with different leadership groups within Iran.

Iran Has Not Given Final Response Yet

As of May 8, 2026, Iran has not formally accepted or rejected the US proposal.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said Tehran is still reviewing the messages received through Pakistan. He added that no official response has been sent to Washington yet.

Iranian officials have said the main issues under discussion are ceasefire and stability in the region.

US Keeps Pressure on Iran

Even as talks continue, Washington has kept up pressure on Tehran and its regional network.

On May 7, the US Treasury imposed sanctions on Iraq’s Deputy Oil Minister Ali Maarij Al-Bahadly and three Iran-aligned militia figures. The US accused them of helping Iran bypass oil-related sanctions and support militia activity.

Iraq’s oil ministry has denied the allegations against the deputy minister and said it is ready to cooperate in any investigation.

Why This Matters?

The talks are important because they involve three major concerns:

  • Iran’s nuclear programme
  • Ceasefire and regional stability
  • Security of oil movement through the Strait of Hormuz

Any agreement between the US and Iran could reduce tension in West Asia. But for now, the situation remains uncertain because Iran has not given its official response.
