Key Developments
- The UAE said Iran launched a series of ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, and drones targeting civilian sites and facilities.
- A large fire was reported at an oil refinery in Fujairah, an eastern emirate of the UAE and an important energy hub.
- UAE officials confirmed that three Indian nationals were wounded in the incident.
- The country’s Ministry of Defence said its air defence systems responded to the attack and engaged:
- 12 ballistic missiles
- 3 cruise missiles
- 4 drones
- The UAE’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs strongly condemned the attack, calling it a terrorist and unprovoked act.
- The ministry said the UAE would not accept any threat to its security, sovereignty, or civilian infrastructure.
- It also warned that the country reserves its right to respond under international law.
Why the Attack Matters
The incident comes at a highly sensitive time for the Gulf region.
The attacks were reported after the United States announced a new effort to help escort stranded oil tankers through the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world’s most important routes for energy shipments.
The Strait has remained under pressure since the conflict involving the US, Israel, and Iran escalated earlier this year.
Iran’s military command had earlier warned commercial vessels against accepting US assistance, saying American forces could be targeted if they approached the restricted waters.

Iran Denies UAE’s Allegations
Iran has rejected the UAE’s claims.
Iran’s state broadcaster IRIB quoted a military source as saying that Tehran had no planned operation to attack the oil facilities mentioned by the UAE.
The source instead blamed the incident on what it described as US military actions in the region, claiming Washington was trying to create a route for ships through restricted waters.
Regional Tensions Rise Again?
The reported attack marks the first such incident against the UAE since Iran and the United States agreed to a ceasefire on April 8.
For residents and workers in the region, especially foreign nationals employed in key industries, the incident has raised fresh concerns about safety and stability.
The injury of three Indian nationals also brings the situation closer to home for India, which has a large expatriate population in the Gulf.
What Happens Next?
The UAE has not yet announced any direct retaliatory move, but its statement makes clear that it sees the attack as a serious violation of its sovereignty.
With the Strait of Hormuz remaining a flashpoint, the coming days will be crucial for regional security, global oil movement, and the safety of civilians living and working in the Gulf.
