Fire Breaks Out at Delhi’s Iconic Parikrama Restaurant, No Injuries Reported

A fire broke out at Delhi’s iconic Parikrama – The Revolving Restaurant on Tuesday afternoon, triggering panic in the busy Connaught Place area before firefighters brought the blaze under control within minutes.

The incident was reported around 3:40 PM at the restaurant, located on the top floor of Antriksh Bhavan on Kasturba Gandhi Marg near Barakhamba Road. According to Delhi Fire Service officials, the fire was confined to the kitchen chimney, where oil residue had reportedly caught fire. Seven fire vehicles, including a specialised Bronto Sky Lift, were rushed to the spot.

No injuries or casualties were reported, and the building was evacuated as a precautionary measure. Officials said the premises would be reopened only after the smoke was cleared and the area was declared safe.

What Happened at Parikrama?

The fire was reported at 3:40 PM and originated in the restaurant's kitchen chimney. Officials said the fire was confined to the kitchen exhaust chimney, where accumulated oil residue had caught fire. 

Thick smoke was seen billowing from the top floor of the Parikrama Restaurant on Tuesday afternoon, drawing attention from passersby and prompting urgent calls to the fire control room.

Emergency Response

The Delhi Fire Department received the call at 3:40 PM, following which seven fire tenders, including a specialised Bronto Sky Lift rescue vehicle, were rushed to the spot. 

The full fleet deployed at the scene included: 7 fire tenders were deployed at the scene - 1 Water Tender, 3 Water Bowsers, 1 Big Foam Tender, 1 Multipurpose Vehicle, 1 Breathing Apparatus Support unit, and 1 specialised Bronto Sky Lift rescue vehicle.

Firefighters managed to contain the blaze by around 4:10 PM, after which cooling operations were initiated to prevent any flare-up. Firefighters brought the fire under control within about 20 minutes, preventing it from spreading to other parts of the building.

What Officials Said

Delhi Fire Department official Mukesh Verma spoke to ANI and gave a detailed account of the incident:

"At 15:40, the fire control room received a report of a fire in the kitchen of Parikrama Restaurant. Fire tenders from the nearest station and our specialised Bronto Sky Lift deployed for rescue operations were immediately dispatched to the scene; a total of seven vehicles were sent. Upon arrival, fire service personnel found the fire burning within the kitchen chimney and the accumulated oil inside it."

He added: "The fire has now been completely brought under control. There have been no casualties or injuries resulting from this incident. We are currently evacuating the building, and it will be reopened once the smoke has cleared."

Evacuation and Post-Fire Protocol

After extinguishing the fire, authorities evacuated the building as a precautionary measure. Officials said the restaurant and the building would reopen only after all smoke had been cleared and the premises were declared safe.

Investigation

The exact cause of the fire remains under investigation. Preliminary findings, however, point to oil accumulation inside the kitchen exhaust chimney as the likely trigger. No structural damage to the Antriksh Bhavan building has been reported so far.
