What Sparked the Defamation Case?
The controversy began on May 29, 2026, when Anjana Om Kashyap hosted a live debate on Aaj Tak about the growing influence of online "star teachers" and the commercialisation of education amid the ongoing NEET UG 2026 paper leak row.
She said online educators speak authoritatively on sensitive topics like NEET and CBSE exams despite lacking real expertise. She argued their fame comes from edited scripts and algorithm-friendly content calling them "frauds" and "explainers" chasing views, not genuine knowledge.
How Did Khan Sir and Abhinay Sharma Respond?
Abhinay Sharma, a well-known maths teacher, hit back saying online educators have massive student support and any backlash from their followers would cause serious criticism. Khan Sir condemned the remarks and said teachers earn an honest living and have every right to call out flaws in the education system. He also said journalists should fix problems in their own field before criticising educators.
In his public videos, Khan Sir went further calling Kashyap a "bikau patrakar" (sold-out journalist), "chatukar," and accused her channel of running a "fake news ki dukaan." He also allegedly revealed the name of the school where Kashyap's child studies something the defamation suit flags as a serious privacy and safety violation.
According to the suit, several defendants with large social media followings ran a sustained campaign targeting Kashyap and the network between May 30 and June 4.
