Why This Scheme Matters?
- The West Asia crisis has created uncertainty for several businesses, especially those linked to imports, exports, logistics, aviation, manufacturing and supply chains.
- Many businesses may face short-term cash flow stress because of rising costs, delayed payments, disrupted routes or higher operational expenses.
- ECLGS 5.0 is aimed at helping such businesses continue operations without facing sudden liquidity pressure.
- The scheme is expected to protect jobs, keep supply chains active and support domestic production.
- MSMEs are likely to be among the biggest beneficiaries as they will get 100% credit guarantee coverage under the scheme.

This means that in case of default under the additional credit facility, the covered portion will be guaranteed through NCGTC. This is expected to give banks and financial institutions more confidence to extend credit support to eligible borrowers.
How Much Additional Credit Can Businesses Get?
- MSMEs and non-MSMEs can get additional credit of up to 20% of peak working capital utilised during Q4 FY26.
- This support will be capped at Rs 100 crore.
- Airlines can get support of up to 100%, capped at Rs 1,500 crore per borrower, subject to specific conditions.
The scheme is expected to provide timely relief to businesses that may be facing working capital pressure because of the West Asia conflict. It will help companies meet short-term liquidity needs, continue production, pay employees, manage supply chains and avoid operational disruption.
For MSMEs, the full guarantee coverage can make credit access easier at a time when many small businesses may be cautious about market uncertainty. For airlines, the extended loan tenure and higher support cap can help manage rising operating costs and financial pressure linked to global disruptions.
Overall, ECLGS 5.0 is being positioned as a safety cushion for businesses, helping them remain stable during a period of geopolitical tension and economic uncertainty.
