A viral video of AIMPLB spokesperson Maulana Sajjad Nomani has sparked a major row. In the clip, Sajjad Nomani claims Hindus are not the majority in India. He says groups like Scheduled Castes, tribals, Tamils, Lingayats, and some Jats should not be counted as Hindus. These groups, he says, have separate identities.

Nomani swears on the Hajr-e-Aswad and the Kaaba. He says Hindus can never be called a majority. He also admits, "We divided Hindus into secular and fascist units. But both hurt our cause."

When was this said?

Nomani gave this speech earlier. It was at the Millat Times Conclave 2026. The event was held on February 2 in New Delhi. Leaders like Mani Shankar Aiyar and Salman Khurshid were present. But the clip went viral only on June 18, 2026.

BJP's reaction: BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla slammed Nomani. He called it a "Jihadi mindset." He linked it to Nomani's earlier "Vote Jihad" call in Maharashtra.

Nomani's past controversies: This is not new for Nomani. He faced a sedition case in 2018. He praised the Taliban in 2021. He was accused of a "fatwa" against Muslim BJP supporters in 2024. AIMPLB had distanced itself from him then too.

Latest update: No FIR has been filed yet over this remark. No EC or police action has come up either. AIMPLB has not issued a fresh statement on this. The row continues on social media for now.
