News4Bharat Verdict
Rating: 3/5
One-line verdict: Pati Patni Aur Woh Do is a loud, colourful, sometimes funny relationship comedy that works best when its actors own the madness, but it struggles when the writing becomes too stretched and noisy.
Best for: Families, rom-com lovers, Ayushmann Khurrana fans, Sara Ali Khan fans, casual weekend viewers.
May not work for: Viewers looking for subtle humour, tight writing, realistic relationship drama or a sharp modern satire.

The film follows Prajapati Pandey, played by Ayushmann Khurrana, a forest officer living in Prayagraj with his wife Aparna, played by Wamiqa Gabbi. Their married life appears stable until Prajapati’s college friend Chanchal Kumari, played by Sara Ali Khan, enters the picture. Chanchal is in love with Sudhanshu Tiwari/Sunny, played by Vishal Vashishtha, the son of politician Gajraj Tiwari, played by Tigmanshu Dhulia.
When Chanchal’s relationship comes under threat, Prajapati agrees to help her by pretending to be involved with her. But before he can explain the truth to his wife, the lie expands. His colleague and wife’s friend Nilofer, played by Rakul Preet Singh, gets involved, and the misunderstanding grows into a full comedy of errors.
In simple language, the film is about one man trying to help a friend, but getting trapped in a web of suspicion, gossip, politics, marriage drama and public embarrassment.

Ayushmann Khurrana as Prajapati Pandey
Ayushmann Khurrana carries the film’s central confusion. His character is not a typical “cheating husband” but a man caught in a lie that begins as help and becomes public drama.
He is at his best when the film gives him awkward situations, panic reactions and straight-faced comic embarrassment. However, the performance also depends heavily on loud farce. Scroll’s review noted that the cast is directed to perform in an exaggerated manner and that Khurrana, Sara Ali Khan and Ayesha Raza Mishra are among those who manage to carry that style better.
Performance score: 3.5/5
Sara Ali Khan as Chanchal Kumari
Sara Ali Khan appears to be one of the film’s most discussed performers on opening day. India Today’s audience-reaction report said early responses praised the film’s tone and performances, with specific appreciation for Sara’s comic zone and her role as Chanchal.
Her character brings the chaos into Prajapati’s life, but she is not just a decorative “woh” figure. She has her own problem, her own love story and her own fear of political-social backlash. That gives her role more function than just glamour.
Performance score: 2.5/5
Wamiqa Gabbi as Aparna
Wamiqa Gabbi plays Aparna, Prajapati’s wife and a journalist. The role gives her emotional ground in a film otherwise dominated by noise and confusion. Her character becomes important because the comedy only works if the marriage feels real enough to be at stake.
The film could have given Aparna more interiority, but Wamiqa brings dignity and sharpness to the role.
Performance score: 2/5
Rakul Preet Singh as Nilofer
Rakul Preet Singh’s Nilofer adds glamour, suspicion and comic movement to the plot. India Today’s round-up of X reactions noted that Rakul received praise from some viewers for charm, comic energy and screen presence.
Her role works best when she becomes a witness to the confusion rather than just a side character in the chaos.
Performance score: 3/5
Vijay Raaz and Tigmanshu Dhulia
Vijay Raaz and Tigmanshu Dhulia add weight to the supporting cast. Tigmanshu’s politician character Gajraj gives the film a caste-politics and power-pressure backdrop, while Vijay Raaz contributes to the comic disorder.
Their presence helps the film move beyond only bedroom-farce territory.
Performance score: 3/5
Comedy Review
The comedy is broad, loud and designed for a theatre audience. This is not subtle humour. It is built around confusion, suspicion, mistaken identity, public embarrassment and characters entering the wrong place at the wrong time.
Some opening-day viewers found it funny and quirky. India Today reported that early X reactions praised its comic and quirky moments, though reviews were subjective, especially around the first half.
However, the film may divide audiences. Those who like loud Hindi farce may enjoy it. Those who want sharper, cleaner writing may feel the jokes are stretched.
Comedy score: 2.75/5
Box Office Watch
As of the latest available public box-office update, confirmed Day 1 official collection numbers are not yet available. But we can expect the movie to earn somewhere around 10-20 Crores on the opening day.
For Pati Patni Aur Woh Do, the real test will be Saturday and Sunday growth. If family audiences and smaller-city viewers support it, the film can recover from mixed critic response. If word of mouth stays divided, it may struggle after the opening weekend.
