LPG Cylinder Price Today (April 6): Domestic Rates Stable, Commercial Gas Prices Surge Across Cities; Check Rates

Amid rising global tensions and energy uncertainty, there’s a small but noticeable relief for households in India. Domestic LPG cylinder prices have remained unchanged on April 6, even as commercial gas rates continue to climb sharply.

For everyday consumers, this means stability—for now. A 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder is still priced around ₹913 in Delhi and ₹912.50 in Mumbai, offering some cushion against inflation.

But the story is very different for businesses.

Hotels, restaurants, and small food outlets are feeling the heat as commercial LPG cylinder prices (19 kg) have surged significantly over the past month. After a ₹144 hike in March, prices were increased again by nearly ₹200 on April 1. This has pushed costs above ₹2,000 in most metro cities.

Latest LPG Prices Across Major Cities (April 6)

  • Delhi: Domestic ₹913 | Commercial ₹2,078.50
  • Mumbai: Domestic ₹912.50 | Commercial ₹2,031
  • Kolkata: Domestic ₹939 | Commercial ₹2,208.50
  • Bengaluru: Domestic ₹915.15 | Commercial ₹2,161
  • Chennai: Domestic ₹928.50 | Commercial ₹2,246.50
  • Hyderabad: Domestic ₹965 | Commercial ₹2,320.50
  • Patna: Domestic ₹1,002.50 | Commercial ₹2,353.50

The widening gap between domestic and commercial prices is becoming more evident, especially impacting small businesses that rely heavily on LPG for daily operations.

Why Are Commercial LPG Prices Rising?

The increase is closely linked to global supply disruptions—and at the centre of it lies one of the world’s most critical energy routes: the Strait of Hormuz.

Nearly a fifth of the world’s oil and a significant share of LPG shipments pass through this narrow passage. Recent developments suggest growing instability:

  • Iran has tightened control over shipping routes and introduced stricter movement patterns
  • Vessels are now being routed through narrower channels, slowing traffic
  • Some ships are switching off tracking systems due to security risks
  • Electronic interference is affecting real-time monitoring of tanker movements

All of this has led to delays, uncertainty, and ultimately—higher energy prices globally.

Geopolitical Tensions Add to Pressure

The situation has become more volatile with fresh conflict developments near Tehran. Reports indicate that an airstrike hit a residential building near Eslamshahr, leading to casualties. While no country has officially claimed responsibility, tensions have escalated sharply.

The standoff between Iran and the United States has intensified after strong warnings from Donald Trump regarding reopening of the Strait of Hormuz.

Iran, however, has made it clear—it will not fully restore operations unless war-related damages are compensated. At the same time, it has reportedly targeted energy infrastructure in parts of the Gulf region.

What It Means for India

India, being one of the largest importers of energy, is directly affected by these global developments.

  • Households: Prices remain stable—for now
  • Businesses: Facing rising operational costs
  • Future Outlook: Prices may remain volatile if tensions persist

For consumers, the current price stability is a relief—but experts believe it may not last long if global supply chains continue to remain under stress.
